Psycho-Drama as a Medium for Intermediate Treatment

PETER RAYNER

After reading Theology at Kings College, London, Peter Rayner took a B.Phil in Social Work Studies at Exeter University, specializing in psychiatric social work. Since 1973 he has been a social worker at the Havant and Gosport Child and Family Guidance Clinics, Hampshire.

Summary

This paper is an account of an Intermediate Treatment Group set up in February 1975. It uses spontaneous drama as its only activity. It is argued that this provides general personal growth in a supportive atmosphere as well as allowing experimentation with specific problem situations. The methods used are described and an attempt is made to discuss the dynamics involved in these processes.
