Summary

A survey of clients of an independent Advice Centre run by local non-professional staff is described-the outcome of their visit, their attitudes towards the centre and their experiences of other agencies. The strengths and weaknesses of this type of informal service as experienced by clients are discussed in relation to the growing emphasis on the value of self-help groups and the importance of enabling working class people to take a more active part in decisions that affect their lives
