Summary
This article suggests that the moral dimension of sexual abuse has remained implicit rather than explicit. As such, it has received little examination and thought with the result that the blunt instrument of common sense morality is applied without analysis. The article examines the way in which this common sense morality is differentially applied to the event of sexual abuse and the events of the professional system's reactions to sexual abuse. It proposes a form of moral mapping which will help children and professionals disentangle and analyse the moral dimensions of sexual abuse and other events in children's lives.
