Summary
This study examines the social and personal characteristics of the people providing support in their own homes (adult fostering) to people with severe learning disabilities. Comparisons are made with the general population on social and personal areas. A typical carer is identified and the results lead into issues currently affecting carers. Links are drawn between carer characteristics and service user quality of life which require further study.
