Summary
This paper compares foster and residential children's perceptions of their social environments (placements). The exercise formed part of a larger examination of care practice in special foster homes and Children's Homes. The application of a combination of quantitative and qualitative techniques showed that the foster children's perceptions of their placements generally compared favourably with those of the residential children.
