Summary

This paper describes a pilot study of a behavioural-cognitive group programme for adult psychiatric patients who presented with a variety of problems. The time-limited groups aimed to teach behavioural analysis skills through the selection, observation and treatment of a target problem by each group member. Results of ten such groups are analysed and indicate that members could operationally define a problem and implement behavioural change which was maintained at six month follow up. However, deficits in formal behavioural analysis skills were evidenced.
